MAG Interactive announced that special ocean-themed game events will take place in six MAG games in October. As part of the climate and games initiative Playing For The Planet, attention is being drawn to the protection and preservation of the world’s oceans and coral reefs.
MAG is developing the events during this year’s Green Game Jam, a workshop where game companies develop game ideas that support the global environmental agenda. This workshop is hosted by the Playing For The Planet Alliance, an initiative under the UN Environment Program that brings together game companies around the world with the aim of improving the climate and the environment through games.
says Daniel Hasselberg, CEO of MAG Interactive said: “Last year’s Green Game Jam inspired us all and this year it was natural to include most of our live games in this initiative. Our goal is to create engaging content for our players while at the same time dying an important message spread that they have the power to help preserve the marine ecosystem, “
Leticia Carvalho, Head of the Marine and Freshwater Division of the UN Environment Program said: “We are very pleased to work with MAG to raise awareness of the precious coral reefs on our planet, which are at the forefront of climate change,”
MAG events are pleased with the release of The Status of Coral Reefs of the World: 2020 report, a comprehensive exposition of the status of coral reefs and the first of its kind in over a decade.
MAG developed these environmental events based on the United Nations-led Glowing Glowing Gone campaign, which is committed to combating the threats posed to coral reefs or “ocean rainforests” as a result of climate change. The reefs are one of the most vulnerable ecosystems due to climate change as they die off from sea heat waves.
Special ocean events are being introduced in Wordzee, Ruzzle, Word Domination, WordBrain, WordBrain 2 and New Quiz Duel. At each event, participants will be asked to either put their names on the Glowing Glowing Gone’s website for coral reef conservation petition and / or to spend any amount on projects that work to protect the health of the oceans.
