Electronic Arts and DICE unveiled the third multiplayer mode for Battlefield 2042 with the official Hazard Zone trailer, which will be released along with the game on November 19th.
Hazard Zone is an all-new, high-risk squad-based game mode that will be available alongside All-Out Warfare and Battlefield Portal, combining gripping gameplay with the best elements of the Battlefield sandbox that we have known for almost two decades. Every bullet, every battle and every decision counts.
Story
In 2040, a global blackout will destroy around 70% of all satellites. Tensions between the US and Russia are mounting. Since this incident, both sides have been using near-Earth satellites to collect intelligence information using radiation-resistant data drives.
About Hazard zone
Hazard Zone is an extraction-based game mode for four people playable on all seven All-Out Warfare maps in Battlefield 2042. We put together a squad based on our style of play and slip into the role of specialists, who all have individual properties and characteristics. Fans of offensive squads should consider Webster Mackay and Maria Falck as these specialists provide mobility and healing. However, gamers who take a more defensive approach should opt for Kimble “Irish” Graves or Pyotr “Boris” Guskovsky, whose fastening system and SG-36 guard gun allow an area of the map to be cordoned off. There will be further options for adapting squads in Hazard Zone to our own style of play when the rest of the specialists are revealed for the launch.
We create squads that are best able to complete our mission and recover the data drives scattered around the battlefield. In doing so, we must fend off rival troops with the same goal, defy natural hazards such as a destructive tornado and face deadly occupation forces that consume resources and alert enemy units in the vicinity.
A round hazard zone consists of five main phases:
Plan & equip – the end of the game determine the starting point, specialists, equipment and tactical upgrades.
Infiltrate – The team is dispatched to the previously determined starting point
Secure – The squads activate their spy scanners and face the enemy squads, occupation troops and the game world itself.
First Extraction – Teams are given the first of two ways to escape alive.
Final Extraction – The remaining squads will fight one last time over who will escape and who will fail.
The success of the team depends largely on the decisions of the each of us, because the key to survival lies in the right combination of specialists, weapons, gadgets and tactical upgrades.
On Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation 5 and PC, we can experience the fast rounds lasting 15-20 minutes with a total of 32 people; on Xbox One and PlayStation 4, 24 players compete against each other on slightly smaller cards.
After a successful extraction, teams receive a basic reward as well as additional rewards based on the number of data drives backed up. We are rewarded in two ways in Hazard Zone: In addition to XP for our level / Battle Pass progress, we receive Black Market Credits (SMC), which we can invest in weapons, equipment and tactical upgrades at the beginning of each round to help us fight to provide an advantage. These upgrades include extra ammo, faster load times, more inventory space, and the ability to revive fallen teammates. The more information we collect, the more XP and SMC we will receive.
Battlefield 2042 is available for pre-order * and will be available in retail and digital vendors on November 19th for Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC. Owners of the digital Standard Edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X | S also get access to the title for Xbox One or PlayStation 4 via dual entitlement.
